Volcanic lagoons · New
Inside São Miguel's volcanic craters, calm freshwater holds big northern pike, big perch, and zander. Today we fish them from the shore; boat trips start once Névoa, our electric boat, is on the water. A completely different way to fish the island.
The Trips
Hidden in the volcanic lakes of São Miguel live giant freshwater predators that anglers around the world dream of catching: pike over 40 inches, huge perch, and impressive zander.
These fish are almost completely untouched. Freshwater lure fishing is still virtually unknown on the island, very few anglers have ever seriously targeted these waters, and many of these predators may never have seen a lure. You would be among the first to fish for them in their natural environment.
Every trip is private and guided; the water and the method are chosen for the day's conditions. Until Névoa launches, every trip is fished from the shore.
Species
Introduced just a few generations ago, these species have now fully adapted and thrive in their natural environment.

Esox lucius · Lagoa das Sete Cidades and Lagoa das Furnas
Casting big lures and topwater in the shallows to target the fish of a lifetime.

Perca fluviatilis · Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa das Furnas, and Lagoa de São Brás
Find the big schools of record-size perch on the drop-offs.

Sander lucioperca · Lagoa das Furnas only
Target the record-size zander in the deep water with LiveScope technology.

Micropterus salmoides · Lagoa do Fogo and Lagoa de São Brás
Sight fishing with light gear is the best way to target these fish.

Oncorhynchus mykiss · Lagoa do Fogo and the streams · on foot only
Clever and discreet, the rainbow trout is a rare prize for the angler on foot.
The Lagoons
All four lagoons are fished from the shore today, and Sete Cidades and Furnas will also be fished by boat once Névoa launches. Each has its own water, access, and season. Rules vary by location and are confirmed before your trip.

Shore now, boat soon · pike and big perch · October to May/June
Two interconnected lakes nestled inside a spectacular volcanic crater. The Blue Lake is larger and clearer, the Green Lake smaller and deeper. Depending on the season and the target species, we may fish one or both.
Pike are abundant, including excellent topwater opportunities over the weed beds, and the large perch make these waters a fantastic destination for trophy predator fishing.
Stunning scenery, untouched water, and exceptional freshwater fishing.

Shore now, boat soon · perch, pike, and big zander · October to June
Directly connected to an active hydrothermal system, Lagoa das Furnas benefits from nutrient-rich water that supports a thriving fish population.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced angler, the pike and perch provide exciting fishing along the shorelines. But the ultimate prize is one of the lake's huge zander.
To target these elusive predators we use LiveScope sonar, which lets us locate them and fish for them precisely.
A unique lake, incredible predators, and the chance to catch a true trophy zander.

On foot · largemouth bass and rainbow trout
Considered one of the purest lakes on São Miguel, Lagoa do Fogo is fed year round by 15 natural streams.
After a scenic 30-minute hike you reach its pristine, crystal-clear water, perfect for sight fishing for largemouth bass and rainbow trout on light tackle.
Wild, crystal clear, and truly untouched. Access depends on the rules in force.

On foot · largemouth bass and perch
São Brás is the smallest lake we fish from the shore, but it holds a healthy population of largemouth bass and perch.
We explore the entire shoreline, casting into different areas to locate and tempt the predators hiding in its water.
A small lake, wild surroundings, and plenty of predator action.
The Boat
The crater lakes call for a very different boat from the ones we use in the Atlantic. We're developing an electric, quiet, shallow-draft boat specifically for these waters.

Rules differ per species and per lagoon, and the guide applies whatever is in force on the day. Whenever there is a choice, the fish goes back.
Névoa, our electric lagoon boat, is still being finished, so for now every freshwater trip is fished from the shore. Ask on WhatsApp and we'll tell you as soon as the first boat dates open.
Yes. Lagoa do Fogo and Lagoa de São Brás are fished on foot for largemouth bass, with perch at Lagoa de São Brás, and Lagoa do Fogo and the island's streams hold rainbow trout. Those trips are guided from the bank.
The best overall season for freshwater fishing is October to June, but great fishing is also possible outside those months. On São Miguel, conditions matter more than the calendar. Tell us when you are on the island and we'll recommend the most realistic and rewarding option for the conditions at the time.
